mental health services for adults and children
in New York and New Jersey
Most recently we experienced an unimaginable, unprecedented event, the pandemic. During this time, you may have felt that relationship issues and conflicts became present or magnified, maybe you felt isolated from others or suffered a loss of a loved one or another form of loss, a breakup or end of a relationship.
Maybe you were feeling this way before the pandemic? This is the time to regain your sense of well-being.
Does this sound like you? Do you want to feel a sense of normalcy? Have you been putting off getting the help you need? Perhaps you want clarity and a sense of control over your thoughts and help improve your reactions to stressful situations.
Take care of yourself. Be seen, Heard, and Understood.

-
Use Praise
Praise your child for simple good behaviors that you would like them to continue. A simple statement of praise can go a long way. If you’re finding it hard to find behavior to praise, compliment your child for extended periods when they do well.
-
Structure and your Child
Children with ADHD do their best when they know what to expect. Establish a routine for homework, meals, playing, bedtime, and preparing for school. For example, your child may learn to brush their teeth at a specified time, get a glass of water, and then lay out their clothes for the next day. You can use a reward system to begin establishing these routines.
-
Small accomplishments go a long way
Rewards are more effective than punishments to motivate a child to change their behavior. Reward systems can be as simple as a token for each day of the week a specific good behavior is completed, which can then be exchanged for a reward. Talk with your child to figure out what reward they want, and how many tokens it will cost.
